GSIC Summit is coming soon!
GSIC Summit is right around the corner and we are really looking forward to seeing our members at our facilities in Madrid on September 11th and 12th.

The agenda for both days of the event is almost closed and GSIC members had received the latest version in the past few days. They can also read it on our private Members Area.

The program of activities for both days includes keynotes and interactive panels on the most trending topics of the sports industry such as “The importance of AI to increase the optimization of Smart Stadiums”, “How to meet your fans’ expectations”, “Technology as a Gateway to enhance athletes and teams performance”,” How to use business analytics to know your audience better” and more.

Also, we will organize working sessions with European Leagues, European Platform for Sports Innovation (EPSI) and Microsoft for startups.

Women in Entrepreneurship, Leadership, and Sports – July 2
  • Only 56% of startups have at least one woman in an executive position, and only 40% have at least on the board of directors. (According to the Silicon Valley Bank report “Women in technology leadership 2019”)
  • Women lead 30% of startups in Europe (according to the European Commission) and in Spain the number positions at 17%. (According to Startup South Summit 2018)
  • In the list of Fortune 500 in 2019, only 6,4% (33 out of 500) of the companies are led by women.
These and other key facts were discussed during our debate table on July 2 by our participants  Iris Cordoba Mondejar, Beatriz Crespo Ruiz, Carmen Crespo Ruiz, Sonia Soria, Mercedes Wullich, Manuel Jordan, Reyes Bellver, Minerva Santana, Marina Boter, M. Carmen Fernández, Rubén Vinagre Sáenz, and Patricia Rodriguez Barrios.

Thanks to them we also could discuss such important topics as the positioning of the woman in two sectors that commonly are considered male, sport and technology. As it came up during the debates, education, visibility in the media, conciliation policies and collaborative work are keys to the growth and strong positioning of the woman in any professional area.


GSIC members can participate in the study that we are driving from the GSIC on such important aspects as female CEOs segment, female entrepreneurship, leadership, decision-making positions and participation in the sports industry involving also tech sector.

PONS IP Seminar on the ‘Impact and value of the brand in the sports field’
On July 10 we held at the GSIC a seminar on ‘Impact and value of the brand in the sports field’ offered by one of our members PONS IP, experts in defining strategies, creating, managing and defending intellectual property rights. PONS IP experts shared how to create, protect and enhance a brand within the sports industry.
 
During the seminar we developed the following topics:
The development of the brand linked to the world of sport
  • Disciplines, sportsmen and sports events
  • Articles, materials, and sportswear
– New opportunities for sports brands
  • Non-conventional brands

EPSI Annual Assembly for members and Co-Innovative in Sports Conference 

On July 4 and 5, our General Manager Iris Cordoba participated at EPSI Co-Innovative in Sport Conference where she was talking about the importance of technological innovation and how it impacts the sports industry. She also attended the Annual Assembly for EPSI members, European innovation network of which GSIC is also a part.

The EPSI Co-Innovate In Sport 2019 conference launched new challenges and opportunities for next years. This was the scope of the event,
organized in Brussels by the European Platform for Sport Innovation (EPSI) and Enterprise Europe Network.

Business Meeting with CD Universidad Católica Cruzados  – July 17
At the Global Sports Innovation Center powered by Microsoft (GSIC) we are constantly working on bringing innovation to sports entities and helping them with their digital transformation processes prescribing our members’ solutions.
 
This time we collaborated with sports club Universidad Católica Cruzados of Chile to organize on a Business Meeting where the club’s representatives met some of GSIC members during an online session and got to know their innovative technologies in Fan Engagement and Business Intelligence.
 
Club Deportivo Universidad Católica Cruzados is a professional football club based in Santiago, Chile, which plays in the Primera División, the top league of Chilean football.  Universidad Católica is one of the most successful and popular Chilean football clubs and considered one of Chile’s “Big Three”.
12th Networking session for GSIC members – July 22

On July 22 our members had a new opportunity to meet each other at the 12th GSIC Networking Meeting, an exclusive event for members that we celebrated at the Center’s headquarters (c / Goya, 90 – 28009 Madrid).

The session was open by Andrew Gilligan, Manchester City FC Head of Research and Insights, who shared the clubs’ vision on digital transformation processes focused on fan engagement.
Like in the previous occasions, we worked with an agile dynamic of short bilateral interviews so that all the attendees introduce themselves and get to know the rest of the participants. Later, we will share the data of all the attendees.

European Sports Tech Conversation: innovation & business development in sports 

The Global Sports Innovation Center powered by Microsoft (GSIC), European Platform for Sport Innovation (EPSI) and Trentino Sviluppo joined forces with an aim to provide the sports innovation community across the industry with an added value.

Together we have launched a series of European
Sport Tech Conversations, exclusive online events that will help to disseminate knowledge on the most important and trending topics of the sports industry, provided by the most relevant stakeholders and experts in big data, IoT, blockchain, eSports, Cybersecurity, fan engagements and much more.

On July 25 we discussed how European accelerators are helping sports tech-based startups grow their businesses on sports industry market as well as what initiatives and project they are creating in order to promote and to bring the innovation closer to the sports entities. Our speakers Anna Hellman, Director – ThinkSport (Switzerland), Alex Zurita, Specialist Advisor – Technology for Participation – London Sport (United Kingdom), John van de Laar, Managing Director – SportBizz (Netherlands) shared
their experience working with different startups and entities in the European sports tech environment.

GSIC Institute classes to begin in October
GSIC Institute is moving forward and together with our members who signed up to be professors of the Master Degree in Digital Transformation of Sports Entities, we prepared the program and the content of this educational program that will begin on October 2019.

This summer in collaboration with ESBS we are preparing the teaching material for online classes shooting the videos of some of our professors.

ONTIER’S IT-Sport Entertainment practice

ONTIER puts its 25-member international team and startups sub-division to all GSIC partners’ disposition to provide them with innovative and business-oriented solutions that adjust to the strict requirements of any jurisdictions of interest.

All GSIC members are granted with five (5) free hours per year to make up to five consultations on any legal matter that deem significant for their project. The scope of consultations also includes Legal consultation sand/or revision of contracts.

Matters regarding the drafting of agreements, company registration and/or M&A transactions are excluded from the hour bag. Nevertheless, all GSIC partners are granted with a 20% discount on any matter that falls outside the scope of the hour bag as to optimize potential and ensure rapid and prosperous development of all partners

NFC Sound project awarded with the Prize Technology applied to Sport

The company Sngular received on Friday, July 5 at its headquarters in Madrid to close the Sngular Experience 2019 week with the presentation of the projects of the students participating in this technology campus and to decide, before an expert jury, the Prize Technology applied to Sport to be awarded next September 26 at the gala of the V International Awards Sponsors a Sportsman.

The five finalists for this award were the projects Clupik,
Kyperion, Sportmadness, NFC Sound and Scoutim.

The WOW Challenge regatta is presented in search of empowering female leaders in the business world
The 1st Official Edition of Wow Challenge 2019 the Solidary Regatta of FemaleLeaders (Entrepreneurs and Directors) in Spain. The initiative was presented on June 13 with a great reception.

Ana Soler, CEO and Founder of SPORT Leaders & Co and promoter of the initiative, explained that Wow Challenge 2019 was born with the objective of empowering women inside and outside of business organizations. What we achieved in 2019 and what is coming in 2020

2019 was a remarkable year of growth and changes for us, and we at the GSIC powered by Microsoft appreciate having you as a part of our network. We want to thank all of our members who are renewing the membership from year to year, and we also appreciate the trust of those members who have just joined our family at the beginning of the year.

Our network keeps on growing. We are delighted to have members from over 36 countries and are even more excited to have welcomed Brazil, Cayman Island, Colombia, Ecuador, Monaco, and Uruguay as new countries to our map. 

We have increased the volume of our activity due to many new members this past year. This gave us an opportunity to have more people working in GSIC team.

In 2020 our members will have an opportunity to benefit on a bunch of new activities and initiatives such as:

  • New Strategic Plan 2020 – 2023 with new services and activities
  • Microsoft Sports Partners’ Solution Portfolio, which MS Sports team will promote directly to the sports entities they are working with
  • New investment activities
  • New Business Trip 
  • Collaboration projects with sports clubs 
  • Opportunity to celebrate an opening of a GSIC satellite in another continent
  • New editions of Sport Thinkers in different kind of sports
  • Collaborations with Spanish and international media, and much more!
Without any doubt, our 2019 was full of exciting challenges, opportunities and opened us new horizons, and we also thank our partners and collaborators outside GSIC member’s network who’s always showing their support and are willing to work together in order to foster the industry by joining forces!

On February 4 at 10:00, we will hold the third meeting of our Think Tank organized in collaboration with Global Esports Summit. This time we will host speakers from such companies as Liberbank, Ontier and Mapfre, to discuss with them the main legal, financial and insurance aspects in Esports currently.

Participate in the Business Meeting with Atlético Nacional de Medellín!
At the Global Sports Innovation Center powered by Microsoft (GSIC) we are constantly working on bringing innovation to sports entities and helping them with their digital transformation processes prescribing our members’ solutions.
 
This time we are collaborating with sports club Atletico Nacional of Medellin to organize on January 15 at 15:30 a Business Day where the club’s representatives will be looking for innovative technologies in Fan Engagement and Business Insights areas, focused on membership, loyalty and customer services.
 
Club Atlético Nacional S. A., also known as Atlético Nacional, is a Colombian professional football team based in Medellín. The club is one of only three teams to have played in every first division tournament in the country’s history, the other two teams being Millonarios and Santa Fe. Considered to be one of the strongest clubs from Colombia, it is one of the most consistent clubs in the country. Atlético Nacional has won 16 league titles, four Copa Colombia and two Superliga Colombiana, a total of 22 domestic titles, making it the most successful team in Colombia. In 2016 Atletico Nacional won Copa Libertadores.

Esports Brands Challenges – December 17

On December 17 GSIC organized in partnership with GES a seminar on Esports Brands challenges to which we invited Mahou San Miguel, Movistar Esports, Razer and Fiesta Colombina to share their experiences sponsoring esports.

This new GESx raised a colloquium between great professionals in which we discussed the role of the collaborating and sponsoring brands
since they represent a large part of the economic impulse of the main agents of the territory: players, leagues, and events.

Virtual Meeting – Innovative technology enhancing players performance
On December 10 at 5 pm we held a Virtual Meeting “Innovative technology enhancing players performance”.

This VM was the first one from the series of sessions with the winners of Startup Competition 2019 that we organized together with LaLiga.

Our speakers from Thermohuman, IBV and Jump shared their solutions applied to team & player performance as well as to injury prevention. They also talked about their experience participating in the Startup Competition 2019 and working on the pilots with LaLiga.

Following the first Virtual meeting with Startups Competition 2019 winners, we organized on December 12 at 5 pm (Madrid time) we invite you to attend a Virtual Meeting “How to engage your sports fans”.

Our speakers from Fanwide and Watafan shared with our members their solutions applied to fan engagement and explain the platforms they developed for that. They also shared their experience working on the pilots with LaLiga.

Fly-Fut begins recording with drones in Barcelona

The Spanish Startup demonstrates the first step of scalability and already serves in Madrid and Barcelona

Fly-Fut is changing the world of football. The start-up, which began its activity in 2017, is a pioneer in the recording of amateur football matches with drones. Fly-Fut has a clear objective: that amateur soccer players feel like their idols, like professional soccer players. Since he began his activity, he has managed to film more than 2000 official meetings. The start-up has achieved that approximately 5000 players do not miss a minute of their matches. Next January 29 GSIC will be attending a Brokerage Event in Brussels organized by the European Platform and Sport Innovation who’s carrying out this activity in order to support partners and organizations in developing their sport ideas, turning them into real European projects: Sports Project Lab 2020.

In EPSI House Of Sport (Rue Joseph II, 40), attendees will participate in active round-table sessions with different consultants, experts in four different EU co-financing programs: Erasmus+, COSME, Horizon 2020 and LIFE.

What we achieved in 2019 and what is coming in 2020

2019 was a remarkable year of growth and changes for us, and we at the GSIC powered by Microsoft appreciate having you as a part of our network. We want to thank all of our members who are renewing the membership from year to year, and we also appreciate the trust of those members who have just joined our family at the beginning of the year.

Our network keeps on growing. We are delighted to have members from over 36 countries and are even more excited to have welcomed Brazil, Cayman Island, Colombia, Ecuador, Monaco, and Uruguay as new countries to our map. 

We have increased the volume of our activity due to many new members this past year. This gave us an opportunity to have more people working in GSIC team.

In 2020 our members will have an opportunity to benefit on a bunch of new activities and initiatives such as:

  • New Strategic Plan 2020 – 2023 with new services and activities
  • Microsoft Sports Partners’ Solution Portfolio, which MS Sports team will promote directly to the sports entities they are working with
  • New investment activities
  • New Business Trip 
  • Collaboration projects with sports clubs 
  • Opportunity to celebrate an opening of a GSIC satellite in another continent
  • New editions of Sport Thinkers in different kind of sports
  • Collaborations with Spanish and international media, and much more!
Without any doubt, our 2019 was full of exciting challenges, opportunities and opened us new horizons, and we also thank our partners and collaborators outside GSIC member’s network who’s always showing their support and are willing to work together in order to foster the industry by joining forces!

Participate in the Business Meeting with Atlético Nacional de Medellín!
At the Global Sports Innovation Center powered by Microsoft (GSIC) we are constantly working on bringing innovation to sports entities and helping them with their digital transformation processes prescribing our members’ solutions.
 
This time we are collaborating with sports club Atletico Nacional of Medellin to organize on January 15 at 15:30 a Business Day where the club’s representatives will be looking for innovative technologies in Fan Engagement and Business Insights areas, focused on membership, loyalty and customer services.
 
Club Atlético Nacional S. A., also known as Atlético Nacional, is a Colombian professional football team based in Medellín. The club is one of only three teams to have played in every first division tournament in the country’s history, the other two teams being Millonarios and Santa Fe. Considered to be one of the strongest clubs from Colombia, it is one of the most consistent clubs in the country. Atlético Nacional has won 16 league titles, four Copa Colombia and two Superliga Colombiana, a total of 22 domestic titles, making it the most successful team in Colombia. In 2016 Atletico Nacional won Copa Libertadores.
