We are happy to invite you to our own round table where we have invited ASTN, Qatar Sports Tech and Arizona State University’s Global Sport Institute to talk about “Startups internationalization through open innovation processes”.

Who WILL BE ON THE PANEL?
Martin Schlegel has almost 25 years international experience in the sports and recreation industry across novel materials, technology and R&D commercialisation. He is the Principal of chemneera Consulting providing advice and technical expertise to communities, companies and stakeholders in the sport technology and sports business industries across Australasia, Europe and the USA. As a Director of the Australian Sports Technologies Network (ASTN) his work focuses on startup programs, global partnerships with other clusters of innovation and facilitating export growth of sports technology companies. He previously worked on major sports infrastructure projects across Australia, Asia, Europe, and the USA, including sports surfacing projects for the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. Prior to his engagement in Australasia, Martin worked in various positions in the USA including management positions in business information technology, quality management engineering and business M&A.
He holds a Doctorate degree (Dr.rer-nat.) in natural science from the oldest technical university in Germany (Technische Universität Braunschweig) specializing in Chemical Engineering, a German Diplom (MSc) in Chemistry and engaged in economic studies as part of his doctorate program. In addition, Martin completed the Certificate of Business Excellence (Executive Education) at Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley (California, USA).
He is a Director of multiple companies, a casual lecturer on sports management, entrepreneurship and innovation and volunteers as the President of a cross-border student exchange scholarship program.
Heba Almasri started her career with startups in the United States in 2006 at the University of New Mexico, where she earned a Bachelor’s in Organizational Management and an MBA in Marketing. She has nearly 8 years of experience in the sports industry, through working as the Head of Business Development at Kora Stars Sports Agency and as a Board Member to the Heritage Soccer Club in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to joining Qatar SportsTech as the Managing Director in August 2019, Heba gained 7 years’ experience in leading various incubators and accelerators, within the United States and at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). She is a certified Executive Coach and a member of the National Business Incubation Association. Heba earned the Small Business Innovation Award in 2008; was part of the team that earned Best Higher Education Institute in Entrepreneurship in the Arab World in 2012; and was part of the team at Qatar SportsTech to earn the Most Innovative Company in Qatar from Qatar Financial Centre in 2019.
- Arizona State University’s Global Sport Institute and Entrepreneurship + Innovation – Jeff Kunowski, Associate Director, Innovation Programs
Jeff Kunowski is the Associate Director of Innovation Programs for Arizona State University’s Global Sport Institute and Entrepreneurship + Innovation group. Jeff oversees GSI’s venture development and funding programs as well as it’s athlete entrepreneurship programming.
Jeff has over 10 years of experience in the sports technology industry both as an entrepreneur and working with numerous organizations including: Southpaw Sports and Entertainment, Leyard/Planar, and Panasonic Corporation of North America. He joined Panasonic in 2015 after reaching an acqui-hire deal with MK Solutions Group, a Scottsdale based consulting firm that he co-founded. Jeff got his start in the industry in 2010 when he founded Illumin8 Outdoor Media, an innovative LED signage company based in Phoenix, AZ.
Jeff also serves as an advisor for numerous start-ups and is a member of the ASU W.P. Carey Sports Business Advisory Board and ASU’s MSIVD Advisory Board.
With experience in management and administration of sports entities, he holds a Master’s Degree in Management of Sports Companies. He has always been linked to the world of sport as a sportsman, trainer, and manager. Since 2019 he has been in charge of the Microsoft Sports Partners Solutions at Global Sports Innovation Center powered by Microsoft. His job at GSIC is to promote and prescribe Microsoft Solutions through a Microsoft Partners Portfolio and to increase the Microsoft Partner Network with GSIC members and other organizations of the sports ecosystem, so they can make use of Microsoft technology, especially the Azure cloud. Thanks to Azure, sport-tech companies are able to develop and sell their own technology through the Microsoft Sports Solutions Portfolio.
