02 Feb New IGOID-FITBE project for the elderly
This week Villacañas will begin to develop a pioneering and innovative project to activate the adults-seniors of the municipality with physical exercise and personalised nutritional advice. This initiative, IGOID-FITBE, is developed by the Villacañas City Council and IGOID-SPORTEC, a spin-off of the University of Castilla-La Mancha and will be carried out with students from the adult and senior groups of the municipal sports activities, aged between 50 and 75 years old approximately.
Given the situation we are going through with the COVID-19, the practice of physical activity and exercise (even at home) has been and is a fundamental pillar for maintaining a good state of physical condition and health in the population, and more especially, in the elderly population.
This is why this new project has been carried out, where by means of a digital platform and an application (Apptivados) it is intended that older adults continue to carry out weekly online training sessions, maintaining and improving their quality of life and their health-oriented physical condition.
In addition to these online training sessions, which the participants will do at home both in groups and individually, there will be consultations with a nutritionist, who will advise the participants on this matter, since a good diet, together with the practice of physical activity, are the basis for maintaining a healthy physical condition.
To develop this project, the participants received a Tablet with the application installed and ready to use. They also carried out the “Healthy Elderly Sportec” programme to determine the initial state of physical fitness and quality of life of the participants starting this programme, which will run until Easter.
