According to WHO data, blindness affects an estimated 39 million people worldwide and 246 million suffer from moderate or severe vision loss. But not all sports are followed with real-time reporting. Considering this gap in the sports industry, ARMIS Digital Sport created the Escoita App, a real-time audio description platform of sports events for blind or visually impaired people, through the narration and audition of games and competitions, of multiple sports, providing a true experience on the field or court.
The Escoita App emerged with the goal of making the world of sports more inclusive and will begin to be used in 2023 by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for
the main team’s games.
The Municipality of Coruña will also implement the application in 20 events during 2023 and the Brazilian club Flamengo is planning to have Escoita in all its main matches.
Promoting accessibility and inclusion in sports should be a mission of several players, such as clubs, federations, media, and public entities.
It is a great achievement to see an application like this reaching so far and making a difference in the lives of thousands of people around the world.
Besides uniting accessibility with technology, this application ensures that fans can have the experience of truly feeling a game or competition of their favorite team and their favorite sport, with a detailed, real-time account.
Sports can and should be for everyone and this is the main mission of the Escoita App.
