In an unprecedented move towards inclusion, the Atlético de Madrid Foundation proudly introduces the Research Center in Sport and Health (CIDS). Located within the Atlético de Madrid Sports Complex in Majadahonda, CIDS stands as the first-ever center specifically designed for cutting-edge research on individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Breaking New Ground:
CIDS isn’t just a center, it’s a trailblazing initiative that places high-performance technology at the forefront of research. The Atlético de Madrid Foundation has embarked on a transformative journey with pioneering collaborations, breaking new ground in the field of sports and health research.
Teaming up with Matrix and Fisaude further strengthens the Foundation’s dedication to advancing research and inclusivity in sports. With these cooperations, the Foundation is setting a precedent in merging sports technology and research. The partnership with Matrix brings advanced sports equipment and training materials, while Fisaude provides state-of-the-art technology to explore and enhance recovery in injury processes.
Our mission is to be the world’s first Foundation focused on utilizing high-performance technology and football to enhance the quality of life of those with intellectual disabilities. In this regard, they intend to put into action protocols that are supported by scientific literature, under the direction of a research group supported by UNIR.
Global Impact:
The Foundation believes in the motto, “What is not defined cannot be measured. What is not measured, cannot be improved. What is not improved, is always degraded”- William Thomson Kelvin. The objective is clear: to break new ground in the pursuit of better-quality aging and to underscore the importance of sports and technology as powerful tools in this transformative journey.
As part of our dissemination plan, sharing all research results is undisputed. Aiming not only to benefit a group representing 1% of the global population, totaling 80 million individuals with intellectual disabilities, and their close ones, but also impact on society. We recognize that if society understands the critical role science and technology play, public support will follow naturally.
Through these groundbreaking initiatives and collaborations, the Atlético de Madrid Foundation is revolutionizing the approach to sports, technology, and research, ultimately paving the way for an improved quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities. Still, the transformative impact of the CIDS isn’t solely defined by these innovative research initiatives, but also on the primary beneficiaries, who are over a hundred players nationwide with intellectual disabilities enrolled in the Foundation’s Academy. Including the cherished players of LaLiga Genuine team. For these individuals, the incorporation of high-performance technology from the CIDS not only elevates their sport experience but catalyzes health improvement while engaging in their beloved
football. The utilization of advanced technology ensures personalized training protocols, facilitating tailored approaches to enhance physical, psychological and social well-being.
As they progress in their mission, the positive influence extends to encompass all categories of the Club, the social teams of the Foundations, and further associations or people with intellectual disabilities interested in joining their programs.
