LigaMX experienced a popularity boom a few years ago with the arrival of the LIGA BBVA Bancomer App, going from 0 to 10 million users in a very short time. Today, the Liga (League) takes another leap forward as it becomes the first application in LATAM to include the Jump functionality in TikTok.
The over ten million Mexican users of the LIGA BBVA Bancomer App who also use TikTok are now the very first users of the first Jump mini program in Latin America.
This is a great start for the new technologies that GeneXus is currently innovating with! This applies to both the creation of corporate SuperApps and to the extension of existing apps with mini-apps and mini programs.
Now you might be wondering…What is a mini program? We will explain that here, along with more data relative to the LigaMX App and to TikTok’s Jump.
A mini program comprises a mini-app for solving a specific need within a host app. In this case, the host is the LigaMX App that enables –through TikTok Jump (mini program)– the interaction between the users of Liga App and the users of the popular social network called TikTok. This allows all soccer fans in Mexico to follow and make predictions about the Liga MX tournament’s games, including interactions between them.
In other words, due to the TikTok Jump in LATAM, now the Official App of LigaMX includes a soccer prediction platform capable of expanding its spread along the social network.
So, the Jump of LigaMX has become the first LATAM JUMP accessible from Mexico! Any user of TikTok in that country may add links to the Jump of LigaMX in his/her publications for inviting friends to predict the soccer games of LigaMX.
App LIGA BBVA Bancomer: some history
Liga BBVA Bancomer, also known as LigaMX, is the main professional soccer league in Mexico –a country where the sport is absolute leader– that brings together millions of fans locally called “porras”. It includes 18 teams related to the different States that comprise the Mexican Republic, thus arising the fanaticism of the more than 120 million people that inhabit the country.
Since its origin in 2015, the App of LigaMX has been connecting fans with teams and games and showing the league’s full data and statistics. It is known for providing all details about games, including the follow-up of teams with the possibility of watching videos of scores in real time for those who are not able to watch the game on TV.
Only a few weeks after it aired, it was highlighted in the ‘Featured Apps’ section of Apple iTunes, and it has grown to become a consolidated informational App that is also an entertainment, gathering over 10 million users from a population of 120 million who own 40.4 million smartphones.
The sometimes-exorbitant demand implies a great challenge that has been overcome with success and agility, with service to 100,000 recurrent users on certain occasions.
At present, it is available at the Apple, Google and Huawei stores.
Technology backing the strong UX of TikTok Jump: GeneXus Low-Code
The Liga MX App, which currently handles huge volumes of users, is a good example of scalability and volume. For instance:
• 150,000 users enter daily (400,000 users on weekends).
• During peaks, 300,000 requests are served per minute.
• There have been cases of 100,000 concurrent users.
• During the most popular games, 500,000 notifications are sent per second.
Such performance was reached by a reduced group of developers using GeneXus, through integration with other platforms in the cloud with serverless technology, which enables automatic scaling depending on the demand, and various supports for Android, Apple Watch, Huawei, and iOS, among other technologies.

About TikTok Jump in the LigaMX App
In order to use TikTok Jump, the mini program may be accessed directly from the video posting screen within TikTok. Any user in Mexico may see the “Add link” button and add the leap to the video directed to the LigaMX App.
TikTok LigaMX Jump was developed with GeneXus, using the Angular Generator.
It is an HTML5 SPA (Single Page Application) optimized for mobile devices that is fed by REST Services built with the GeneXus Java Generator. These APIs are located in the cloud with serverless technology, using API Gateway for API exposure.
