Cricket Australia’s Innovation Day

Cricket Australia’s Innovation Day

Join the GSIC powered by Microsoft and shape the future of cricket performance. By participating in this Innovation Day, you’ll play a key role in enhancing cricket strategies, improving team performance, and providing coaches, analysts, and athletes with vital insights that will reshape the game.

The Background

Imagine fielding positions could be tracked seamlessly, providing critical insights for team strategies and player performance. Cricket Australia (CA) is looking to implement a video and AI based solution that will allow coaches, analysts, and athletes to monitor fielding positions in real-time, providing a competitive edge in every match.

Historically, capturing fielder positions has been a manual, labor-intensive task, prone to error. We are on a mission to change that with a cutting-edge solution that efficiently collects this data and enables real-time monitoring, ultimately helping teams perform at their peak.

The Challenge

Tracking the position of each fielder in real-time has proven to be a challenge due to the complexities of data collection in cricket. Cricket Australia faces the task of developing a system that:

  • Efficiently collects real-time data on each fielder’s position for each ball bowled.
  • Ensures minimal error and a streamlined process.
  • Integrates with game analysis platforms to enhance team performance strategies.

This is your chance to help build a game-changing solution for one of the world’s most beloved sports.

The Objectives

Field Positioning

  • Develop a system for real-time tracking of each fielding position, for each ball bowled, using video captured from a static camera and AI.

Coordinates

  • The system will be able to generate the X/Y coordinates (and corresponding fielding position) of each fielder at the point of ball delivery. The bowler, batter, and two umpires should be ignored.

Data Extraction

  • Fielding position data will be able to be extracted and/or ingested into relevant game analysis platforms or a data warehouse via an API in an appropriate format (e.g. json, xml, csv, etc).

The Process

Application: January 7th 2025
Closing: February 28th 2025
5min Pitch: March 11th 2025

After receiving applications, we will conduct a thorough screening process, selecting the companies that we believe are the best fit and have the most promising solutions for the challenge.

Please be sure that you will be receiving feedback once your proposal is evaluated.

Best of luck!
